They really are desperate housewives, desperate for excitement and adventure. Something different. And what's more, they're out there doing it. Once, it was men who had the mid-life crisis. Walking out on the family, buying the sports car, getting the tattoo. Moving in with the younger woman. Well, these days women want a slice of that action too. In fact, almost 40 per cent of them admit they've had some sort of mid-life crisis. Now, that might just mean learning a foreign language, taking a world cruise or climbing a mountain. But as Peter Overton found, it can also mean facelifts, fancy sports cars and wild affairs. And that spells trouble for complacent men everywhere.
