Ethiopia's northern region of Tigray has been in conflict for nearly two years now.
But the last few months of ceasefire, had led to hopes of a possible peace deal between the government and rebels.
That all changed on Wednesday, with an attack in the town of Kobo that the government blamed on TPLF - the Tigray People's Liberation Front.
Then government foces launched an air strike on Friday in Tigray's regional capital, Mekelle.
Can mediation end the fighting?
And what about the many civilians trapped in the region?
