WATCH: What inspires educators about the next generation

Low salaries, pandemic burnout and a polarized political landscape has led many educators to leave the vocation in recent years. But for those that remain, how does the generation they teach inspire them, evan amid these trying times?

As another school year begins, the PBS NewsHour posed that question to educators who attended its recent Student Reporting Labs workshop in Arlington, VA.

"I am so enthusiastic about these kids because they're true leaders. They stand up for what they believe in. They're not afraid," said Melissa Bedford-Fears of Kansas City, Mo. "They're inspired. And that, frankly, is inspiring to all of us, I think."
