House Judiciary chair Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, opened a hearing Monday with a tribute to the late Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who died on Friday.

“She was a dedicated public servant. Her service on this committee spanned nearly three decades and included shepherding through countless pieces of legislation,” Jordan said. “I said yesterday at [a] subcommittee hearing that I don't know that there was any member of Congress who got more out of five minutes than Sheila Jackson Lee did.”

At the House Judiciary hearing Wednesday with FBI Director Christopher Wray, representatives asked about the investigation into the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13 at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The House Oversight Committee grilled Kimberly Cheatle, director of the U.S. Secret Service at the time of the deadly shooting, on Monday. Members on both sides of the aisle called for her resignation and she announced Tuesday she was stepping down. Cheatle repeatedly referred lawmakers seeking details to the investigation being carried out by the FBI.
