On Sunday, President Joe Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office and denounced political violence in the wake of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Saturday.
"Politics must never be a literal battlefield, God forbid, a killing field," Biden said.
“It's time to cool it down and we have a responsibility to do that."
Former President Trump was carried off the stage by Secret Service after gunshots were aimed at him Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump posted a statement to Truth Social afterward describing what he experienced,
"I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin."
Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief, was killed in the crowd and another person was injured.
The FBI has identified the shooter as 20-year-old Matthew Crooks and is undergoing an investigation into the attempt. No motive has yet been identified.
