Dr. Leana Wen, professor of public health at George Washington University, cautions caregivers of young children that "this might be the most dangerous time" since the COVID-19 pandemic began because of the highly contagious delta variant, but "we know so much more than we did" at the beginning of last school year. She told PBS NewsHour correspondent William Brangham that layers of protection -- face masks, ventilation, maximizing time outdoors, vaccines for those around children who are eligible -- can protect children who are not yet eligible for coronavirus vaccines. "Know that risk is cumulative," Wen said during the Aug. 18 conversation.
