Millions of students across the U.S. are returning to school amid soaring rates of new COVID infections. Many of them are too young to be vaccinated, but the nation's fragmented response to the pandemic has also increased the level of risk children and families must absorb when attending classes in-person this fall. Will everyone wear a face mask? How many children and staff will be present in each classroom? Do school administrators have resources to improve ventilation and air flow? Dr. Leana Wen, former public health commissioner for Baltimore, who is the author of her new memoir called "Lifelines," will share her expert insights and explore what is at stake as U.S. students go back to school with PBS NewsHour correspondent William Brangham at 12 p.m. ET Wednesday, Aug. 18. Please share any questions you may have for Dr. Wen ahead of this conversation.
