Del. Stacey Plaskett, D-Virgin Islands, spoke Feb. 10 as House Democrats made their case for why the Senate should convict former President Donald Trump on a charge of inciting insurrection during the attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump was impeached by the House in January, while he was still in office.
Plaskett played previously unreleased audio recordings and footage of pro-Trump supporters breaking into the Capitol and assaulting Capitol police officers. The audio and footage reconstructed the Jan. 6 attack with police radio recordings, Capitol security camera footage, video recorded by insurrectionists themselves and other first-hand sources.
The footage showed pro-Trump supporters breaking into the Capitol with weapons, chanting for former Vice President Mike Pence to be hanged, searching for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, attempting to break into the room Pelosi and her staff were barricaded in and breaking into Pelosi’s office.
