WATCH: Biden says Trump has tried to stop progress toward racial inclusion

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in the final presidential debate of 2020 affirmed that he understood why parents of color fear that their children will be racially profiled, including by the police. He noted that while he’s never had to caution his daughter about the police if she is pulled over, Black parents -- “no matter how wealthy or how poor they are” -- have to teach their kids to be deferential to these authority figures.

“The fact of the matter is there is institutional racism in America,” Biden said.
The former vice president added that while the U.S. has continuously been “moving the needle further and further to inclusion, not exclusion,” Trump has significantly challenged racial progress. Biden called for a plan to improve racial equity across a number of U.S. sectors, including the economy, education and health care.

Trump and Biden met for their second debate on Oct. 22, with new rules instituted by the Commission on Presidential Debates after a chaotic first debate in which both candidates -- but especially Trump -- interrupted each other and the moderator repeatedly. The debate comes less than two weeks before Election Day, as early voting numbers climb in several states across the country.
