American citizens and Afghans are being warned to stay away from the Kabul airport, which is under U.S. control, as there is growing concern about the risks outside the airport's gates, including possible attacks from the so-called Islamic State.

The Taliban have seized the surrounding areas, which is why the White House is stressing the fact that they can’t guarantee safe passage to the airport.

As Jennifer Johnson explains, it's a fearful waiting game for those desperate to get out, especially for those Afghans who aided the U.S. during the 20-year war.
