Few towns saw the impact of Cyclone Gabrielle quite like Wairoa.

Cut off completely for days, and still cut off to the South a week-and-a-half on from the torrential rain, Wairoa residents have been left to the clean-up by themselves.

But with the bridge halfway between Wairoa and Napier still down, residents of this northern Hawkes Bay town has now got another challenge.

Chief Correspondent John Campbell went to Wairoa to understand the impact.
