Waka Kotahi is considering closing State Highway 1 over the Brynderwyns for two months early next year to fix storm damage.

But Northland Businesses are calling for a rethink, especially as the closure could be from Waitangi Day to Easter.

Ian Newey from IK SM Transport spoke with Breakfast's Matty McLean saying the roads are in a 'shocking state'.
