Last week, one in five cases recorded in the US were in Florida, reaching more than 21,000 a day, higher than last year's peak. Vaccine hesitancy and misinformation are fuelling the numbers, as Florida's Republican Governor Ron DeSantis continues to oppose strict restrictions like mask wearing and vaccine mandates.
