A series of powerful and destructive tornadoes touched down on Thursday night in multiple states, killing at least three people in the Logan County, Ohio and injuring dozens of others across the Midwest. Immensely heavy snow also buried parts of the Rockies.

In the aftermath, parts of the U.S., including communities across Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Colorado, woke up Friday morning in the dark because of power outages triggered by the storms.

Not only that, but many buildings, vehicles and homes were left with significant damage or completely destroyed as a result of heavy winds. Roads and highways ended up blocked, too.

“Ain’t nothing you can do,” James Ashton, a resident of Milton, Ky., said on Thursday, as firefighters made efforts to clean up a local neighbourhood. “There ain’t nowhere you can go here,” he added.

Emergency services in the snowy western regions geared up to shovel snow off of major highways and neighbourhoods, while helping drivers stuck in snowbanks.

The storms were expected to let up early Friday, though the commute for residents in the Rockies is expected to be more challenging for some time.
