US Republicans grill Fauci over COVID-19 origins, science behind social distancing | FULL

Former U.S. Chief Medical Adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci testified before a Republican-led House panel after a 15-month probe of the former government scientist and the origins of the COVID-19 virus.

It was the first time Fauci has publicly testified since he retired in August 2022. He was grilled by the committee on his response to the pandemic.

In response to whether a laboratory leak was possibly behind COVID-19, Fauci replied, "I keep an open mind that it could be either a laboratory leak, or it could be what I think the data is leaning towards mostly, which is a natural occurrence from an animal reservoir."

Ahead of the hearing, Republicans on the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic requested access to Fauci's personal email and cellphone records – after obtaining information they claim calls into question whether the nation's former top infectious disease expert may have tried to keep some records out of the public eye.
