A winter storm moving through the U.S. south left many Texans in the dark as icy conditions brought down trees and froze equipment, leaving more than 430,000 people without power as of Thursday.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Thursday that power outages currently being experienced in parts of the state are a result of tree branches falling on power lines and that the state power grid was not impacted by the storm.
The storm, which also impacted Arkansas and Oklahoma, resulted in the deaths of at least 10 people, after ice and snow created treacherous driving conditions.
While a warming trend was expected Thursday, the city of Austin's utility company warned all power may not be restored until Friday. Even as parts of the south look forward to thawing out, officials are warning of another frigid system coming from Canada that is anticipated will move into the U.S. northeast by Friday.
