Hurricane Ida has made landfall as one of the most powerful storms ever to hit the United States.
The Category-4 storm brought fierce winds, torrential downpours and knocked out power to New Orleans in Louisiana - but has since weakened.
It struck 16 years to the day since Hurricane Katrina hit the same area, killing nearly 2,000 people.
Governor Edwards said it is one of the strongest hurricanes to hit Louisiana in recent history.
Al Jazeera’s Phil Lavelle reports New Orleans, the US.
