The United States recorded nearly 4,500 daily deaths from the coronavirus on Tuesday according to John Hopkins University.
Overburdened healthcare workers are struggling to cope, with more than 100,000 people across the country admitted to hospital with COVID-19 for 40 days in a row.
And although the Trump administration's vaccination scheme has begun, some people have yet to receive their shots.
