As the Omicron and the Delta variants drive the US's coronavirus cases to record daily highs, celebrations for New Year will be curtailed.
New York city officials are allowing a mere 15,000 spectators to attend its Times Square celebration, a far cry from the tens of thousands of revellers the event used to attract.
