The UN's International Organization for Migration says 2023 was the deadliest year for migrants in a decade. At least eight and half thousand people died on migration routes around the world. Over three and half thousand them were on routes across the Mediterranean. The IOM says it's a 20 percent in-crease on 2022.

Sara Prestianni, a Migration and Asylum Programme Officer at EuroMed Rights, joins Al Jazeera’s live from Brussels.
