UN issues grim warning on climate change— what does it mean for Canada?

A sweeping new climate report by the United Nations suggests the world is on track for catastrophe and more extreme weather, as greenhouse gas emissions continue to alter the planet's climate at an alarming rate.

The report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) involved the work of 234 scientists, and more than 14 thousand studies. It concluded humans are primarily fueling climate change. It also shows the world has warmed by about 1.1-degree Celsius since the late 19th century, and will likely surpass the 1.5 degree mark in 20 years.

Heather Yourex-West explains the grim findings, what they mean for Canadians, and what experts say is needed to avoid the worst-case scenario. Plus, Robin Gill speaks to climatologist Xuebin Zhang, one of the lead Canadian authors on the report, to explain the document's alarming findings and what humanity can do to help turn things around.
