British Prime Minister Boris Johnson met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on an unannounced trip to Kyiv, Ukraine on Friday, as part of his second visit to the Ukrainian capital since Russia's invasion began.

The two leaders said in a joint news conference that they had discussed additional military and economic support for Ukraine and the possibility of further tightening sanctions on Russia. Zelenskyy also pushed for the idea of Russian reparations for Ukraine.

Johnson once again accused Russian forces of war crimes, as well as illegal deportations, which he described as a "hideous echo of the past." Russia has denied war crimes are being committed in what it calls a "special military operation" in Ukraine.

This surprise visit came a day after the leaders of France, Germany, Italy and Romania travelled to Kyiv and endorsed Ukraine's candidate status to join the European Union.
