Ukrainian's praise Zelenskyy's speech to US Congress, welcome Patriot missile defence

Kyiv residents praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday for his speech delivered Wednesday in the U.S. Congress, calling it “very inspiring” and “powerful.”

“The most dramatic moment, in my view, was the moment when (the) Ukrainian flag given by the servicemen in Bakhmut was handed over as gratitude for (the) given weapons and aid. My eyes were full of tears,” 30-year-old IT specialist Bohdan Koval told Reuters.

Zelenskyy told the U.S. Congress on Wednesday that aid to Ukraine is an investment in democracy, not charity, and invoked American victory over the Nazis in a key World War Two battle as he pressed for continued assistance.

Zelenskyy, on his first foreign wartime visit, earlier met President Joe Biden, who urged support to keep flowing to Ukraine in 2023.

Kyiv residents polled by Reuters expressed hope that the Patriot missiles the U.S. has agreed to send to Ukraine will help to better protect energy infrastructure targeted by Russian missile and drone strikes.
