Ukraine conducted military drills in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone on Friday near the Belarus border.

There is no immediate danger of invasion from the territory of Belarus, according to Serhiy Nayev, commander of Ukraine’s Joint Forces.

Tanks and western-provided tactical vehicles were involved in the drills.

“Tanks are an assault force. It is used to conduct offensive actions. (Western) tanks are needed to provide our tank brigades,” Nayev said.

Defence ministers from NATO and other countries were meeting in Germany, amid warnings that Russia will soon re-energize its almost 11-month-old invasion to seize parts of Ukraine's east and south, which it says it's annexed, but does not fully control.

Germany said it would need agreement from allies to give the green light for the delivery of German-made tanks to Ukraine to fend off Moscow's invasion, apparently dashing Kyiv's hopes for a quick decision.

“We need more (tanks). Because we are dealing with the enemy that has quantity, not quality,” Sviatoslav, a member of the Ukrainian tank brigade near Bakhmut, said.
