Before the conflict, Odesa had a population of more than one million.

Ever since July 2022, the city has largely avoided the worst of the fighting due to the grain deal, which enabled the export of millions of tons of Ukraine grain.

However on Monday, Russia withdrew from that deal - and ever since Russia has been pounding the city of Odesa.
