NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and U.S. Ambassador to NATO Julianne Smith appeared on a podcast Wednesday where they discussed Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, the ongoing response to the war from NATO allies, as well as the future of their alliance with Ukraine, during the annual Center for New American Security.
"The Ukrainians have proven that they've been able to push back the Russian forces...and now they have more equipment, more training, and more preparations for liberating even more land. No one can tell exactly how this war ends, but what we do know is what happens around the negotiating table, that at some stage will hopefully bring an end to this war. It totally depends on what goes on the battlefield so we need to strengthen Ukraine's position on the battlefield," Stoltenberg said."
Stoltenberg also said not to underestimate Russia because "what they lack in quality - they have bad morale, bad training, bad equipment, bad leadership, bad logistics - but what they lack in quality they compensate in quantity."
