Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was irritated on Thursday when he noticed his official translator was not translating his remarks properly during a joint news conference with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

When the translator finished translating Zelenskiy's Ukrainian remarks on why it is impossible for Ukraine to start peace talks with Russia into English, Zelenskyy completed the missing parts himself — in English.

"And I said about the window of possibilities... I said that it couldn't be solved because... we see each day guns and fire from Russia," Zelenskyy said. "And I said 'Slava Ukraini," said Zelenskiy, emphasizing a phrase that means 'Glory to Ukraine."

Zelenskyy, who speaks English, prefers to speak Ukrainian in public speeches.

During the news conference, U.N. Secretary Antonio General also felt the need to correct the Ukrainian translator who forgot to pass on his gratitude to the Turkish and Ukrainian leaders.
