The UK has recorded its highest daily Covid-19 deaths since May.
In the last 24 hours, there have been 22,885 new cases diagnosed, with 367 new deaths recorded. This gives a total number of deaths so far from Covid of 45,362.
Boris Johnson is also under renewed pressure over his handling of the Covid-19 response from a group of more than 50 of his own backbench MPs. The new group is made up of MPs from some of the northern seats won at the last election which had been seen as traditionally Labour.
They’ve written to Mr Johnson warning that his stated aim of “levelling up” is under threat - and that their constituents are amongst the worst affected by the pandemic.
We're joined by Mark Ji, a professor in Vaccine Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine - and is also a member of the Government's Sage sub-committee on modelling.
