COVID-19: UK records second-highest number of daily coronavirus cases yet

Another 39,036 confirmed coronavirus cases have been recorded in the UK - the second-highest daily total to date - according to government figures.

The highest-ever increase was on Wednesday, with 39,237 new cases confirmed.

However, the amount of testing has risen in the last week from around 400,000 per day to 500,000, which could be a contributing factor.
