UK imposes sanctions on Iran after British-Iranian national accused of being UK spy is executed

Sanctions have been imposed on Iran by the UK after a British-Iranian national was executed after being accused of spying for the UK.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he was "appalled" by the execution of Alireza Akbari, saying: "This was a callous and cowardly act, carried out by a barbaric regime with no respect for the human rights of their own people."
