People in Florida are loading up sand bags and making preparations to their homes and businesses as Tropical Storm Elsa makes its way towards the state after battering the Caribbean.

A state of emergency is in effect for parts of Florida as the storm is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rain. It caused evacuations of more than 180,000 people in Cuba and lashed the eastern part of the country.

The storm was at hurricane strength before it reached Cuba and killed at least three people in the Caribbean. It was the first hurricane to hit Barbados in over 60 years and first of the 2021 hurricane season. Radar maps show the storm was less organized as it moved over Cuba and it is expected to hit Florida as a tropical storm. Ross Hull reports.
