As tropical depression Nicole moves out of the state of Florida, recovery is beginning along parts of the eastern coast after it was hit by the then-hurricane, forcing many from their homes as the storm left a path of destruction.

It's the second hurricane to hit the state in less than a month, and in hard-hit Daytona Beach Shores, at least 15 condo complexes were evacuated after they were deemed unsafe. Throughout the county of Volusia, where the community is located, about 49 beachfront buildings were deemed unsafe and at risk of collapse because of the storm, including 24 hotels and condos.

Many residents have been left uneasy, having just dealt with hurricane Ian and now Nicole, dealing with erosion from the storm and its impact on buildings.

"We didn't even expect it. I mean, we thought, okay, hurricane season is over," Kevin Kennedy of New Smyrna Beach told reporters.

The storm is now moving through Georgia and the Carolinas, bringing torrential rain and high waves along the coast.
