It appears that X may well mark the spot, as the number of pieces of treasure found in 2022 was the highest since the 1990s according to provisional figures.

In 1996, there were just 24 treasure cases - instances where a found item is reported as treasure.

The provisional figure for reported treasure finds in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2022 was 1,378.

Sky News' Tom Cheshire has gone metal detecting with a YouTuber and visited the museum with the most treasure.
