During his visit to China, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz spoke with the Chinese leadership at a time when economic and diplomatic relations between Europe and Beijing are increasingly strained.
Following a meeting between Scholz and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Li said that the two countries' economic interests remain closely intertwined. President Xi Jinping warned Scholz against protectionist economic measures, as the two countries are dependent on free trade. Last year, Germany developed a strategy to avoid becoming too dependent on China.
