Thousands of people have been forced from their homes by torrential rains, which caused widespread flooding in the Andean nation of Peru.
In the Amazon region of Bagua, firefighters rescued an elderly woman who was trapped inside her house after the rains caused one of the adobe walls to collapse. And in Piura, nearly 900 kilometers north of the capital city of Lima, residents desperately tried to escape the flooding using a makeshift raft.
Across much of the north, Peruvians have struggled with flooded fields, dead livestock and cut off roads as rivers overflowed. Authorities are warning that ongoing rain is likely to bring more flooding to the already hard-hit regions.
