A tornado tore through New Orleans and its suburbs on Tuesday night, leaving at least one person dead and multiple injured, as strong storms made their way across the U.S. Deep South.

The tornado appeared to begin in a New Orleans suburb before moving east across the Mississippi River into the Lower 9th Ward of the city and parts of St. Bernard Parish, both of which were badly damaged by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The suburb of Arabi saw the brunt of the damage, with homes left destroyed and pieces of debris hanging from electrical wires and trees.
