An aerial time-lapse video shows a tornado forming in Firestone, Colo.
The tornado was characterized as a landspout tornado, which grows from the ground up, as opposed to a traditional supercell tornado, which forms downward from a thunderstorm, reported local media.
Landspout tornados occur in areas where extremely moist air encounters extremely dry air.
The National Weather Service reported the tornado tracked north of Frederick to west of Platteville in the afternoon of June 7. Residents were urged to take shelter if a tornado approached their area. The agency reported that the tornado caused damage to power poles northeast of Denver.
