In northern Ethiopia, after nearly three weeks of fighting, a deadline imposed by the government for Tigrayan forces to surrender is set to expire in just a matter of hours.
The federal army has surrounded Tigray's capital Mekelle and is threatening the use of artillery on the city of 500,000 people.
