To be considered to be among the truly great male ballet dancers, it seems you not only need rakish good looks, grace and athleticism, you need to have defected from communism. First; there was Nureyev, then Barishnikov, now it's Li Cunxin. Li defected from China and by way of America has finished up a principal of the Australian Ballet. As Jeff McMullen reports, Li's life is itself the stuff of ballet -- the story of a peasant boy picked from millions to be trained as a dancer and who goes on to international stardom.
