Despite setbacks in Canadian pipeline building, the oil-and-gas sector remains a backbone of Canada's economy, making up just under 10 per cent of our annual GDP.

With increasing attention to global carbon emissions, pressure will be particularly intense on Alberta oil sand producers to clean up fossil fuel extraction.

As Heather Yourex-West found out, industry leaders are already working together on different solutions to reduce emissions in the sector.
