At least four people were killed after a round of severe thunderstorms hit southeastern Texas this week, causing widespread damage.Winds of 100 mph toppled trees, knocked out power and mangled power lines. In Houston, debris lined the streets and windows were blown out of high-rise buildings.

More than 850,000 homes and businesses lost power.Houston Mayor John Whitmire urged non-essential workers to stay home. He said it could take weeks to completely restore power, even as temperatures in the area are expected to rise into the 90s in coming days.
