A section of Interstate 95 collapsed in Philadelphia Sunday after a tanker truck carrying a petroleum product caught fire, closing a segment of the U.S. east coast’s main north-south highway.

Transportation officials warned of extensive delays and urged drivers to avoid the area as officials said the tanker may have been carrying hundreds of gallons of gasoline. The fire is now reported to be under control.

There were no reports of any injuries but the heavily-travelled I-95 is a vital corridor.

“Being close to the Delaware River, with the storm drains involved, we’re concerned about the environmental impacts as well – what the runoff might look like,” said Dominick Mireles, director of the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management.”

There is no immediate timeline for reopening the highway.
