Taiwan earthquake: Drone footage shows incredible damage to collapsed bridge

Drone footage showed the extent of the damage done to a collapsed bridge in southeastern Taiwan after the island was struck by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake on Sunday afternoon.

The quake caused the Gaoliao Bridge in Hualien County to collapse. Several buildings, including schools, were also damaged in the quake and train carriages were derailed.

Taiwan’s weather bureau said the epicentre of the earthquake was in Taitung County and followed a 6.4 magnitude tremor on Saturday evening in the same area. Taiwan’s fire department said one person died and 146 were injured in Sunday’s quake.

The earthquake could be felt across Taiwan, the Weather Bureau said. Buildings briefly shook in the capital of Taipei and aftershocks continued to jolt the island.
