Tens of thousands of people marched through the streets of the Sudanese capital of Khartoum on Saturday in the biggest challenge to General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan since he ousted Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok's cabinet on Oct. 25.

According to reports, security forces shot and killed three people during the demonstrations, bringing the total number of deaths to 14 since protests began earlier this week.

Burhan has defended the coup, saying he ousted the government to avoid a civil war, but protesters said Saturday they want a "civil country without any foreign or military intervention."
