Shadow Scotland Secretary Ian Murray has said Sir Keir Starmer is "perfectly confident that he was abiding by the rules" after Durham Police sent a questionnaire to the Labour leader and Angela Rayner as part of their investigation.

Murray told Kay Burley: "He was 350 miles away from home during an election campaign in a constituency office having something to eat.

"It's all been pretty clear what the case is that he has laid out and he says that it is up to his own integrity but also the integrity of our democracy that if he is given a fixed penalty notice like the Prime Minister he will step down. He doesn't think he has done anything wrong."
