Spike in respiratory infections in China prompts questions | DW News

China says a surge in respiratory infections across the country is from common viruses and not a new pathogen. The surge in infections, particularly among children, had prompted the World Health Organization to seek more clarity from China. Hospital admissions have increased nationwide. Chinese authorities have blamed the spike on increased infections following the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions. It is the first full winter Chinese citizens are facing since those restrictions were removed.
