A former power station in Baltimore, Maryland, was brought down on Friday in a planned implosion that offered a spectacular sight for those who gathered nearby to watch.
The implosion went off without a hitch, with a deafening boom ringing out as the explosives were detonated. The defunct power plant's stacks then came down in a heap of rubble, sending smoke and dust billowing into the air above.
The plant was the former C.P. Crane Power Generating Station and was acquired by a company called Forsite Development Inc., which specializes in redeveloping industrial sites. It could turn the site into a renewable energy provider, data centre or high-density housing.
