At least 19 people have been injured in a blast near the mayor’s office in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, with gunfire erupting afterwards, according to police and witnesses.
Witnesses said the huge explosion on Sunday damaged nearby buildings.
Al Shabab fighters have claimed responsibility for the attack on the Mayoral offices, which has now been cordoned off.
Fighters stormed the building shortly after the explosion where confrontations are ongoing.
Shabaab has been attacking Somalia's central government since 2006, seeking to topple and rule.

Al Jazeera's Jama Nur Ahmed reports from Mogadishu, Somalia.
