Somali forces put an end to a siege at a hotel in Mogadishu on Sunday, adding that they had rescued 106 hostages, including women and children.

The siege began late Friday when militants linked to al-Qaida blasted and shot their way into the Hayat Hotel. Somali forces battled with the gunmen for hours, well into Saturday night, before the attack was finally ended. It is not known at this time if all the gunmen were killed, but the French news agency France-Presse reported that a security commander said they were deceased.

At least 21 people, mostly civilians, were killed in the siege and 117 people were wounded. According to Health Minister Dr. Ali Haji Adam, 15 of those wounded were in critical condition.
