Slovakia's prime minister is reportedly no longer in a life-threatening condition after he was shot several times in what is being described as a politically-motivated assassination attempt.

Robert Fico remains seriously ill and a man has been detained in connection with the attack.

The populist leader was re-elected last September after campaigning to cut his country's support for Ukraine after Russia's invasion.

The Kremlin called the attack "an unacceptable tragedy".
